Aftermath of Severe Tropical Storm Kammuri, Tung Wan beach: Curse of the Five Circles Rings

Weather pr0n

Severe Tropical Storm Kammuri? At 5:45am this morning Hong Kong Observatory raised the Number 8, the gale or storm force warning. Most everyone stayed home. Ferry services suspended and the airport shut down for a few hours.

Hereabouts, this morning was very gusty, but with only light rain. At 5:15pm this afternoon, the Number 8 was lowered and replaced by the Number 3 (strong winds).

Territory wide? Not much damage: nine reports of fallen scaffolding. Thirty five reports of fallen trees, and 22 reports of closed or partially closed roads. No injuries to speak of.

Forecast? Unsettled, with occasional heavy rain.

Tung Wan Road

A tropical depression began to form in the South China Sea at the end of the weekend. On Monday, Hong Kong Observatory noted that the as yet unnamed tropical cylone was close enough to merit raising the standby signal Number 1.

Today, the strong wind warning Number 3 was raised. Tropical Storm Kammuri is heading northwest and will pass to the west of a little island during Wednesday morning.

Currently? It is the proverbial calm before the storm.

Miles Davis: Elevator to the Gallows (Ascenseur pour l'échafaud)

For the weekend, a guilty pleasure.

Great film noir in the French style with a gorgeous score by Miles Davis. Here's the film trailer and some of "the loneliest trumpet sound you'll ever hear":
