The Other Side
Far down the eastern end of Hong Kong island is Chaiwan. Up over the hill and and off to the left on the road to Shek O sits the massive public hospital Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH).
Discussing its long name with a friend, we finally decided English speakers who are newly arrived probably call it "the Pamela Youde" whilst oldtimers surely refer to it as "the Nethersole'; whilst Cantonese speakers have no problem at all, they just call it "Eastern Hospital".
