Dragon Boat Festival

As well as it being Bloomsday, tomorrow is also the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar aka Dragon Boat Festival.

As part of the celebration, many of the trawlers in the harbour of a little island in the South China Sea are flying pennants.

Racing in the harbour will be from 10am till 4:30pm. Of course, it is really hot and humid then . . .

Sorry, there was an irritating typo in my previous comment! Trying again...

At times like these, Hong Kong can seem to have a lot of festivals, doesn't it?

The more festivals/public holidays the better!

As it is, we might have lost one of the public holidays but for the pre-1997 negotiations.

During the talks, it was acknowledged it would be necessary to drop the holiday for the Queens' Official Birthday.

But lose a holiday?

Some bright spark suggested Buddha's Birthday as the replacement. The rest is history.

That, and the devil is in the details.
